A person who spiked treats with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two children aged nine and ten years old.

The defendant was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the location in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on recently.

Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

The man engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the defendant had played this game with the young males "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including baby oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member notified the authorities about his concerns.

She said the defendant continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.

The legal representative stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the law enforcement again.

She explained the man then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five children.
